Today App *

A social discovery app designed for young Adelaide adults, combining friend matching with local deals and discounted activities. Users can browse upcoming events, promotions and social groups by day and activity genre, including music, fitness, events and creative activities.

The app encourages low-pressure social connection by allowing users to join groups without needing to initiate conversations, supported by guided prompts and simple reactions to reduce social anxiety. Personalisation begins during onboarding, where users select their top three interests and state, without requiring a specific address. The app is designed for individuals seeking new friendships, as well as couples and existing groups looking for affordable experiences.

User experience

During onboarding, users select their top three activity genres to create a personalised preference profile, allowing the app to suggest relevant activities and like-minded users. Discounted activities are organised by day, making it easy to browse and select upcoming experiences.

Users can join a group without needing to initiate conversation, simply attending the activity on the selected day. Afterward, natural connections can encourage users to remain in the group and organise future meet-ups. Guided chat prompts, such as “Thanks, I’ll see you Friday,” help reduce social uncertainty and make communication more comfortable.

The app encourages Gen Z users to step away from screens, experience affordable activities and build genuine social connections.

Point of difference

Unlike traditional social and dating apps, this concept focuses on friendship and real-life connection rather than swiping culture. It reduces social pressure by connecting users through shared activities, interests and lifestyles rather than appearance. The platform prioritises safe, meaningful and local connections within Adelaide.

Accessibility Considerations

The app's filtering and presentation of activities will take into account various physical, social, and cognitive demands. Users will be able to choose their preferences for things like cost, time commitment, mobility (wheelchair access, low-impact activities), and sensory environment (quiet vs. noisy, inside vs. outside) in the search filter. This guarantees that suggestions are both physically attainable and "relevant" in terms of interest.
